How I Come Up With Content Ideas For My Greeting Cards
- 21 Feb, 2020
Coming up with content ideas is, for the most part, is not so easy. Look at Pinterest and see what is trending for that day. Yes, you may have to take a few minutes to find what's popular, but it can be done. Please don't get caught up with the food pins and start planning your meals (been there done that), but set the alarm on your phone for five minutes and stick to it.
Once I find something that catches my eye, I will start writing down at least 50 things that are associated with that idea. Try your best to think of at least fifty things. The first 25 will come naturally, but you want to drill deep into your mind and withdraw the unlikely 25 that other artists have not considered.
Give yourself plenty of time to come up with these ideas. I have taken several days on a really tough concept. Things will pop into your mind even when you are not thinking of it at all.
Next, start a few scribbles, or quick thumbnail sketches. It's good to narrow down the view and perspective that you want. Pick the best thumbnails and begin to draw out your cards.
This is how I conceptualize most of my cards, especially if I am having trouble coming up with ideas. I will admit that some greeting card ideas have just come to me, and I will surpass these concept ideas. That does happen occasionally, but not always. Keep these hints on the back burner, and don't be afraid to try new ideas.
